With 1022 meters of altitude, the Pico da Tijuca is one of the highest points of elevation in the municipality of Rio de Janeiro, and a great place to observe the greatness of the Tijuca National Park. From its summit you can admire much of North and Central Zone of the city, beyond the Gávea, Pedra Bonita and Parrot Peak. The walk starts at the Buen Retiro, the main headquarters of the Park that is in the district of Alto da Boa Vista, about 45 minutes from south of the city. The trail is 5.5 km long (round trip) in rugged terrain and steep for several times.
